Key Background
Dr. Marian Khatib, Head of Breast Surgery at American Hospital Dubai, has recently performed the Middle East’s first robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy, a recent technique embraced in the management of breast cancer. The procedure utilizes the Da Vinci Robotic System to offer more precise surgery with nipple and skin conservation, with less traumatic and safer therapy for the patient with better oncological as well as cosmetic outcomes.
The mechanical procedure is simply making very tiny and minute cuts on the outside of the breast so that surgeons can access the cancerous tissue destruction without reshaping the breast to appear different. The procedure also involves having an immediate post-procedure reconstructive breast surgery without consuming a very long amount of time and experiencing postoperation pain. The technique also prevents infection and necrosis of the skin or nipple, as was previously experienced during the mastectomy procedure.
American Hospital Dubai has also been the first to introduce state-of-the-art medical technology to the area. American Hospital Dubai was the first Middle Eastern hospital to get the new model generation of the Da Vinci Robotic System and the first private healthcare group to be accredited by the Surgical Review Corporation as a Centre of Excellence for Robotic Surgery. This demonstrates that the hospital is committed to providing world-class, minimally invasive surgery.
Sherif Beshara, the CEO of American Hospital Dubai, attributed the success of Dr. Khatib to a testament to the hospital’s commitment to surgical excellence and women in medicine empowerment. American Hospital Dubai is the region’s gold standard since the hospital opened its doors in 1996 as the first hospital to bring innovative methods to healthcare and patient care.
